Overview
SHIPMAX is an independent supply chain consultancy and 3PL matchmaking platform based in Swansea, Wales. It helps consumer brands find, select and manage the right third-party logistics (3PL) partner, and then run the resulting supply chain properly.
Finding and selecting happens through the Lead Exchange by SHIPMAX. A brand submits its fulfillment requirement free of charge and receives a maximum of three vetted, genuinely suitable 3PL matches, drawn from an invitation-only partner network spanning the UK, EU and US.
Every 3PL on that network was visited in person, vetted and credit-checked before it was admitted, and is monitored once it is in. Brands pay nothing to be matched. 3PLs pay a subscription to be on the network and nothing to be chosen: SHIPMAX takes no commission and no success fee from any 3PL, so the incentive is to recommend well rather than often.
Why cap it at three? A brand handed a dozen proposals ends up comparing prices. A brand handed three, at most, compares partners. Managing and running happens through the consultancy.
Once the match is made, SHIPMAX CAN HELP negotiate the contract and rates, plan the onboarding and stock migration, handle UK and EU customs and cross-border compliance, advise on carriers and systems, and keep the 3PL's performance under review once the operation is live.
Brands use the matchmaking, the consultancy, or both. SHIPMAX was founded in 2023 by Phil Rees on more than twenty years of hands-on logistics and customs experience.
Brands including GORUCK, BOXRAW, Scruffs, PROMIXX and JACK1T have used SHIPMAX to choose their 3PL.
SHIPMAX is highly rated by brands on Google, and more than fifty brands have reviewed or recommended it across Google and LinkedIn.
It is an approved advisor on the Business Wales Accelerated Growth Program and a member of the Chartered Institute of Export and International Trade, and is based at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David's Innovation Matrix on Swansea's SA1 Waterfront, where Phil also guest-lectures.
